Question28 : What are the desktop styles in windows 98 ?
Answer : There are there styles available in windows 98 :
1. Web style
2. Classic style
3. Custom style

Question29 : What is the hardware requirement of windows 98 ?
Answer : Windows 98 requires the following computer hardware :
1. A 386, 486, pentium-2 & 3, Celeron on compatible CPU.
2. At least 16 MB of ram.
3. A hard disk with at least 200 MB free space depending on which option you choose to install.
4. A CD-ROM drives from which to install windows 98 and other software.
5. A screen, keyboard, a mouse.
6. If you wants to listen to sound create by windows 98 and other programs, you need a soundboard and two speakers attached to the computer.
7. If you want to use to your computer connect to the Internet, you need a modem and phone line.

Question30 : Write the features of GUI ?

1. They displays overlapping windows on the screen . Each window can contain an application program or documents. This allows you to switch back & forth between the task.
2. Commands are consistent from program to program.
3. You can operate them by pointing and clicking on the digital desktop.

Question31 : What is a clock chip ?
Answer : The components in a computer are designed to operate in perfect synchronization. To do, this, they need a time keeper. The clock chip provides the timings signal in the form of electronic pulses that are used by the computer components to set up a working pace. The chip generates a regular beat and the operations of a computer are timed to this beat. Thus a computer, that operates at higher clock speeds is faster.

Question32 : What is ram ?
Answer : Random access memory is the memory that the computer uses for storing the programs and their data while working on them. So, if you are drafting a letter using a word processor, you are working with a document loaded into the ram. To store your later use, it has to be saved on the hard-disk. Ram is called read/write memory. It is volatile.

Question33 : What is rom ?
Answer : Another portion of the internal memory found on the motherboard is called read only memory. Rom contains permanently recorded instruction that are vital for starting up a computer. Instruction in rom can be executed but cannot be changed and hence the name read-only-memory. Rom is said to be non-volatile.

Question34 : Define bus ?
Answer : Communication between the microprocessor and the memory chips as well as other chips found on the motherboard is accomplished a set of wires running between them. These are called the bus. The bus is used to acrrying data is called the data bus. When data is sent from one unit to another, the address is also sent with the data.

Question35 : What are ports ?
Answer : All input and output devices like the keyboard, the printer and the mouse are connected to the system through ports. These ports are actually the inlets and outlets of the microprocessor. The microprocessor communicates with the outside world through them. These ports can be either serial or parallel.

Question36 : What are parallel ports ?
Answer : They are sometimes called as centronics interfaces. These are normally reserved for printers and some types of external storage devices. They carry data 8 bits at a time on parallel ports because they can transmit 8 bits or 1 byte at a time. They are faster way on the computer to communicate with the input output devices. Traffic moves faster in case of parallel ports.

Question37 : What are serial ports ?
Answer : Sometimes it is also called as rs-232c or asynchronous code. Serial ports where you attach modems, devices which are used to communicate to other computers, some type of printers. The big advantage of serial ports is that the data is send and received in two lines. When data is sent, it is sent one bit at a time.

Question38 : Define SCSI ports ?
Answer : Many devices such as scanners, Cd-Rom can be connected to SCSI code. One big advantage of this type of ports is that more than one device can be connected to the same port. One device is plugged into the port and then other device is plugged into the first device. This process is also called daisy chaining. It reduces the no. Of slot taken by all of these devices.

Question39 : What is secondary storage memory ?
Answer : The auxiliary memory and secondary memory stored in closely linked with the main memory of the CPU. Since main memory can’t be flooded with unwanted data at particular moment same is stored in auxiliary memory from which desired data is fed to main memory as a when required by it. Thus secondary storage extend the mains storage by providing lower cost, slower speed storage by providing lower with large capacity. It’s non-volatile in nature that is it’s contents doesn’t get washed as power supply failure. Auxiliary is usually in the form of magnetic disk or tapes, floppy, Cd’s, Dvd’s.

Question40 : What is plug and play ?
Answer : Plug and play means the computer’s operating system automatically detects a new hardware, software and configures it to run on your screen. It done this by loading an unloading device drivers as you connect or disconnect peripheral such as printers, modems an network cards.

Question41 : What are bar codes ?
Answer : Bar codes are made up of bars with different widths and spacing as read with either a handheld wand or a built in scanner.

Question42 : What is primary memory ?
Answer : The main memory is called internal or primary. The main memory is used to store a part of the operating system software, or more application programs being executed, the data being processed and required by the programs for being executions and the process data awaiting output. It usually quite fast in terms of reading from it and writing into it. However the internal memory lends to is limited in size by economic consick consideration. Primary storage is a volatile. Thus information in primary storage has to be preserved for that time. Only when it is needed for processing.
