Question 4 : Give the advantages of E- MAIL and World Wild Web service provide by Internet?
Answer: Advantages of E-MAIL:-
i. Low cost. Electronic mail is an extremely cost-effective way to move information around, especially when it must be moved fast. A three-page letter to U.S.A can cost Rs. 400 through courier, or about Rs 100 to fax. The same letter can be send by E-MAIL for the cost of one local call.
ii. Speed. Electronic mail can be delivered almost as fast as the wire can carry it.
iii. Waste reduction. E-MAIL goes a long way toward reducing the clutter of paper in the modern office, not to mention saving many trees.
iv. Easy to use. It is easy to send E-MAIL. You don’t have to retype it 3 times, find a envelope, go to the corner to buy a stamp, and then find a mail box.
v. Record maintenance. Because all messages are files, you can automatically maintain a record of communication with someone else.
vi. Patience. E-MAIL waits unit you read it. It doesn’t have the jangling urgency of a phone call.

Answer: The WWW is a graphical, colorful, user-friendly interface to the Internet. It is a line mode hypertext browser that can scan hyper linked database, which spreads over whole of the world. It allows the user to browser information across without the necessity to login. This Internet tool is based on the command on the client server model.


Question6 : Define MOSAIC?

Answer: MOSAIC is a GUI browser developed by National Center Of Supercomputing Application (NSCA) Illinois. This browser can be used on X-Windows, SUN system and many other operating systems.

Question8 : Define TELNET?
Answer: This protocol helps a user to log in at a remote computer and function as if he or she were connected locally to that computer. It is a form of dial up connection between the two computers for exchange of data.

Question9 : What are the different types of networks?
Answer: Networks And Its Types :-
i. Local Area Network : These are computer networks confined to a localized area such as an office or factory.
ii. Metropolitan Area Network : These are the networks that link computer facilities within a city.
iii. Wide Area Network : These are the network spread over large distance, say across countries or even continents. It can even include a group of LAN connected together.

Question10 : What is modem and what are its functions?
Answer : A Modem is a device used as an interface between a computer and a communication channel or line. It modulates digital signals from input/output device into analog signals for transition. At the receiving terminal another modem demodulates the transmitted signal back into digital. Thus the modem can act both as modulator and demodulator.

Question 11 : What is a network ? Why is it needed?
Answer: A network is an interconnected collection of autonomous computers that can share and exchange information.

Major reasons that emphasize on the need of network are: -
i Resource Sharing : Through a network, data, software, and hardware resources can be shared irrespectively of the physical location of the resources and the user.
ii Reliability : A file can have its two or more copies on each and every computer of the network, so if one of them is unavailable the other ones can be used. That makes the network more reliable.
iii Reduce Cost : Since recourses can be shared automatically the cost reduces.
iv Fast Communication : With network it is possible to exchange information at very fast speed.

Question12 : What is a server and what are its roles?
Answer: A computer that facilitates the sharing of data, software, and hardware recourses on a network is a Server.
There are two kinds of servers :
i Non-Dedicated Server : It is a workstation on the small network that can double up as a server.
ii Dedicated Server : On bigger networks a computer is reserved fro the cause o serving which is called a Dedicated Server.

Question13 : Compare the two access method mostly used in most of the network ?
Answer : The two mostly used access methods are : CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collections Detection) are token passes.
